I guess tracks and teams are not aware how many potential new fans in the grandstands comment how clunky and stupid these things look like and how they look amateurish. They don't look like racecars and they don't look cool. They look like a shade-tree concoctions and do nothing to attract new fans.
Its bad enough that modern modifieds lack the appeal of the vintage cars, but sail panels take it to a ridiculous level. Go to Oaks in a few weeks and notice some seriously appealing and cool looking racecars - and then checkout the sail panels. I drive the extra miles to avoid tracks that race them - looks like I need to drive even more now.
