PORT ROYAL, Penn. (June 19,2020)- Sunday evening at the Port Royal Speedway an individual complained of having issues keeping warm. Security was called and an ambulance was dispatched to tend to the said person. The individual was tested for possible COVID-19 exposure and was transported via ambulance off the Speedway grounds.
Speedway officials were notified Monday morning that the patient did indeed test positive for COVID-19 and discussions with the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Juniata County Emergency Health Service were had to discuss the repercussions and about how to proceed properly.
At the recommendation of the PA Dept. of Health, Speedway officials were advised that they did not need to shut down and that proper protocol was taken in every way. The track was informed that no changes would need made and that the best way to further combat the spread of COVID-19 and possible infection was to continue the practicing of Social Distancing Guidelines recommended by the CDC.
Track officials were further instructed that concession stands did not need to be shut down and that all track operations could continue as normal. However, to further do our part and ensure we are treating this with the utmost respect and responsibility, we have made the decision to close the track food stands for the foreseeable future.
In the meantime, we will sanitize each stand to the highest standards and all food options will be provided via outside sources. Longtime supporters of the Speedway, Packers Concessions, will be on hand with their trailers to help further ensure the safety of our employees, fans, and drivers.
We understand the severity of COVID-19 and want to ensure that all precautions are being taken on our end to allow a safe and enjoyable experience. These are difficult times and we understand that providing honest and upfront information is the only way to proceed.
We want to remind you all to continue to practice social distancing guidelines and that if you do not feel well, for the safety of your fellow race fans, workers, and drivers, to please stay home. We are extremely fortunate to havewww.speedshifttv.comproviding PPV coverage and you can still catch racing activities from the safety of your home.
From all of us at the Port Royal Speedway and the Juniata County Agricultural Society, we thank you for your continued support and cooperation and look forward to seeing you all at the track.
