Ringoes,NJ – ARRA Auto Racing Research Associates are always busy adding documented research to their vast library of researched subjects within the sport of auto racing.  While that may sound like it would be enough to keep the group of historians busy…it would be misleading.  Not only do the historians keep a look out on statistics on the next driver, track, organization, etc to research and document, but they also keep a keen eye on their existing data and continually refine the stats to further the ability of the viewer to discern the exact facts and figures about every event they document.

ARRA President Fred Voorhees explains further….”Our historians recently had an internet “round table” via email to discuss a situation that came up that needed further clarification.  While it turns out that the majority of the membership pretty much agreed with the on-going criteria for handling that particular racing scenario, it prompted a few historians to delve back into our files to check into some situations that might need to be taken a look at.” Explained Voorhees.

ARRA historian Will White was successful in going back to take a deeper look into the ARRA files pertaining to the Reading (PA) Fairgrounds Speedway.  Older racing fans may remember back in 1978…Reading promoter Lindy Vacari re-named his Modified class as “Champ Cars” and the Small block sportsman division was then named the “Modified” division.  Both divisions were counted as big block modified wins, but truly, the “Modified” class of 1978 were still small blocks.  “That has the potential to lead to some confusion when viewers compare the Modified and Small Block stats.  Things would not add up.” Fred went further.  “So, Will took up the task to go back and make the necessary changes to the Reading files (3 of them) and also…the files of three of our researched drivers who happened to capture at least one of those “Modified/small block” wins….Kenny Brightbill, Jimmy Horton and Meme DeSantis.”

Voorhees provides that “My main goal at ARRA is to make sure that our information on our site is as clear and concise as possible!  We are a reference site and many fans, track PR and announcers, statisticians and other historians so I need to make sure we are as precise as possible with our statistics.”

While the changes do not directly effect the win totals of any of the three drivers…it slightly nudges their overall division win totals in some respect.

Auto Racing Research Associates is a group of almost thirty auto racing historians across the country banded together for the purpose of the research, documentation and displaying of auto racing history such as driver win statistics, as well as track, racing series’ and organizations histories and also the background of racing personalities, particular cars from the past and various other interesting facts of racing history that should not be forgotten.  ARRA continues to build a network of associated auto racing related websites to unite for better chances of furthering the understanding of the past of our sport.  ARRA offers looking up services for those looking for one particular piece of information from the past.  They are the official statistics information source of the Flemington Speedway Historical Society and have been doing much of the research work for a number of years for the Northeast Dirt Modified Museum and Hall of Fame in Weedsport, NY.    We encourage you to visit our new website if you have not had the pleasure yet.     https://sites.google.com/view/tracks-series-organizations/reading-speedway</p>
