TOTH TAKES SECOND ROUND OF HIGH GEAR TOWING SERIES

With $2,000 going to the winner of the High Gear Towing Crate Select Series, the level of competition is on the rise at the New Egypt Speedway and taking round two of the nine event series was Joe Toth. Coming off his big win in the first event of the Select Series, Toth has served notice that he will be the one to beat for the first ever title. By the luck of the draw, it was Nick Van Wickle who led the field of twenty three into action with Toth jumping into second and Johnny Bangs third. Three time division champion Eric Palmer, held the number four position with Ryan Simmons fifth. One of the fastest paced races of the season saw the caution lights remain off as the top five drivers stayed glued in their respective positions. Lapped traffic began to play a big part of the event as the race entered the halfway point and it was on lap sixteen that the first caution flag flew when leader Van Wickle made slight contact with two of the slower competitors. The Edgewater Park driver was able to continue and remain the leader of the race as the field lined up for the double file restart. Toth seized the moment to outrun Van Wickle going into turn one as Bangs followed the #9 into second. Rookie Tia Aumick spun in turn two on lap eighteen, bringing out the yellow flag again and setting the stage for a two lap shoot out. Bangs gave it his best effort when the green flag reappeared but came up short as Toth turned in another solid outing for the win. Second spot went to early leader Van Wickle, who was awarded the Lyons Construction Hard Luck Award with Palmer fourth and Tom Princiotta just edging out Simmons for fifth.

Current Larry’s Hot Rods and Harleys NEWS points leader Mick D’Agostino continues his dominance as he took home the win in the twenty lap headliner. The victory was his fifth of the year and the seventh of his career at the Route 539 oval. It was veteran Al Cheney who led the first three laps of the race before giving way to three time and defending track champion Rich Mellor. D’Agostino, who started in seventh was scored in second as lap five was recorded. Tracking down the racing police officer, the field saw the red lights flash on as Larry Drake flipped his machine in turn four after making slight contact with rookie Brenden Hires. Fortunately, Drake was able to walk away from the scene which saw considerable damage to his #8. Mellor held off the constant challenges of D’Agostino as the event returned to green flag conditions, but on lap fourteen the Massachusetts driver was able to pass Mellor when his machine began to misfire. Hires, in only the second race of his career in this division, was without a doubt one of the fastest machines on the speedway moving into second on lap seventeen. Unfortunately, he did not have enough time to catch D’Agostino as he took the win. Heidi Hedin turned in yet another flawless run taking third with early leader Cheney fourth and Ken Nealis fifth.

It was another exciting Freedom Firearms Street Stock fifteen main event and taking the win after making a last lap move was Bill Liedtka. Rookie Ron Pavia took the lead at the drop of the green and held the position up until lap five when former track champion, Gary Klimeczak, wrestled it away from him. Liedtka, who started in tenth, was quickly knocking on the Klimeczak door on lap seven. The winner of thirty seven features never gave up, finally showing his hand as the two charged out of turn four to take his third win of the 2022 campaign. Brian Ludwig crossed the line in third followed by Pavia and Spider Ensinger III.

Justin Dunn had his hands full holding off Rich Page but did so, taking his fourth win of the year in the Wash Wagon fifteen lap 4 Cylinder main event. Joe Garey Jr bested Mike Fox for third with Joe Garey Sr, taking home fifth place money.

David Miloszar Jr notched win number five in the eight lap Rookie feature. Second spot went to Logan Starr with Tia Aumick third.

Next up on the 2022 schedule is Graduation Night for the Rookies. Also on the schedule will be the Vahlco Modifieds, Hamilton Auto Clinic Crates, Larry’s Hot Rods and Harleys NEWS Sprints, Wash Wagon 4 Cylinders, and the Vintage cars.
