Ringoes,NJ – ARRA Auto Racing Research Associates are proud to announce that after many years, they have finally added the complete weekly winners listing of the long defunct half mile dirt speedway known as the Nazareth Speedway, from their earliest shows to the last one held back in 1988.

“This came about because I was taking on the research into “Rags” Carter’s racing career, both down South in Florida, as well as his success after he traveled to the Northeast.” revealed ARRA President Fred Voorhees after completing the project.  “I didn’t realize that we didn’t have the weekly winners list for Nazareth in our files.” he continued “…..so when I went to grab the wins for Rags at Nazareth, I found that we didn’t and it slowed my work down on the Carter research.  I decided well, I guess its time to do the Nazareth work”.    Although Nazareth opened up with its first racing program in 1950, Voorhees began his work on the 1962 season, when Rags Carter first won a feature there.  “It was the obvious thing to do at that point.” referring to his work on the Carter research, “I could always go back and grab the earlier ten years after the Carter work was complete.”

Once the work was underway, the Nazareth research simply continued to the end of its run as a racing facility.  “Nazareth’s first race was held on 5/7/50 and was won by Nelson Applegate and its final event was held on */31/88…..an 88 lap DIRT Modified Series event, won by Brett Hearn.” stated Voorhees about the process.  “So, I got the Carter research done with much help from the Carter family, which I am forever grateful to……. got that up and posted on our website and I continued to work when I could on the Nazareth stuff “on the backburner.”

Many thanks have to go to fellow ARRA historian Stephen Bubb.  “Steve came through for me when he said he could provide a listing of many of the weekly winner stats, but there was other information that I needed to go back and verify for each event.”  As a “back burner” project, Voorhees fitted the project in when he wasn’t busy updating the website on a weekly basis and formatting and adding the continual submissions from the staff of historians, chasing down other possible sources of additional stats and participating in a few summer time ARRA display dates at tracks in New York state.

“Its all good” he states from the ARRA office located in his home.  “As I have said before…I have dedicated a good portion of my retirement to this ARRA research stuff.  Its part of what I do.  After this…I will just move on to the next research project – not sure what that will be yet, but there is always something that needs researching.”  Visit the Nazareth half mile speedway ARRA webpage here: https://sites.google.com/view/tracks-series-organizations/nazareth-speedway
