The racing at Shellhammer Dirt Track on May 22nd saw quite a bit of drivers finding different grooves of racing to get some added speed and handling during their A Mains.

The 125 micros were the class selected for the $500 to win payout and it took Chris Dolan 6 laps to get by leader Dylan Yeingst enroute to claiming the big money and his 2nd win of the season.John Maurer became a challenger on lap 8 with Shane Davis keeping pace with the leaders.Davis and Maurer battled the last 4 laps with Davis getting a well earned 2nd over Maurer.Blaire Schoenly romped home 4th with Easton Miller 5th.It was nice to see Sam Borger return to the racing wars after a week away. The Smart Choice Auto Service $50 bonus went to Yeingst.

TNA Fleet Services added $50 to the Jr. Slingshot winner's payout and all 13 entries made the call for the 20 lapper. Aubrey Romig was the early race leader but was getting pressured by Miles Zehner and Hailey Eroh with Daniel Betz,Lily Barrett and Anthony Ciccone also showing early race speed.Eroh took the top spot on lap 8 and after some weeks of bad luck, she managed to get the 57 under the checkers for her 1st win of the season on Weds. The 5 to go signal really had some field shuffling as Gavin Wolfe joined the top 5 after overtaking Barrett. The run to the finish found the accordion effect with Romig and Zehner making contact sending Romig toward the infield and out of the top 5.Ciccone took the runnerup spot with Zehner getting 3rd.Wolfe held strong for 4th and Barrett getting 5th just ahead of Barry Seaman.Getting the Smart Choice bonus was Rockey Johnson,Jr.

The 270 micros saw a rash of yellows during their 20 lap main that resulted in less than 1/2 the field finishing.Dylan Kuronya assumed race command after a lap 2 pass on Jesse Leiby and from there he needed to run a focused 18 laps for which he did to take his 1st win.Patrick Kirn has really turned some heads with his newfound speed as he harassed Kuronya on every restart, but did not have enough to make the winning pass.At lap 10,it was 9th starting Matt McAnally now showing why he is the current point leader as he made his way into the top 4.Jacob Neff lost 3rd to Matt on lap 10 and was getting pressured by John Maurer.McAnally overtook Kirn on lap 18 but Kuronya had a large enough lead not to be challenged. It was Kuronya,McAnally,Kirn,Maurer and Neff as the top 5. 16th starting Logan Hess was the $50 Smart Choice Auto bonus winner.

The All Star Slingshots with their car count and $150 TNA Fleet Services winner's bonus were racing for $650 to win.Early night luck of the draw got Dylan Hoch the advantage he needed as he won the 1st heat of the night starting on the A Main pole.A 7 car incident on lap 1 shuffled the field and after lap 5, 5th starting Brett Bieber was now in charge of trying to overtake Hoch for the lead, after getting by Luke McCloskey and Jason Dunkelberger.Joining this fast running top 5 was Colton Williams and these 5 put on quite a show to the finish with Darian Danyluk,Griffin Hendershot and Lindsey Garl having a battle of their own right behind the top 5.The top 5 went unchanged with 3rd,4th and 5th separated by only.8 seconds.Garl got by Hendershot and Danyluk for 6th.The Smart Auto $50 bonus went to Daron Reppert.Hoch's winning total payout was a profitable $650.

Twenty 600 micro entries saw quite a bit of early race wheeling and dealing as it was apparent that some of the back field starters had late race setups which in the end would payoff nicely.Polesitter Trevor Kobylarz had his hands full with Damien Bower,Dan Lane,Jr. and Adam Buchel for the 1st 8 laps. Buchel found some lowside racing room heading through turn 2 to make the pass of Kobylarz.2 laps later 7th starting JT Bierman and 2024 winner at the Dirt Track got by Bower,Lane and Kobylarz to slot into 2nd.Buchel was negotiating slower traffic with no issues and on lap 19,Lane,Jr. found a line around the speedway that no one else was using to overtake Bierman. With all of this action happening10th starting Ryan Rochelle also took to the middle of the speedway in going from 8th to 5th in 3 laps and passed Bierman for 3rd on lap 20.The 5 lap shootout was enjoyable to watch as respect was shown to the Frantic 5 with Buchel getting win # 2 for 2024.Lane,Jr. held firm getting 2nd by just .35 seconds over Rochelle.Bierman and Kobylarz rounded out the top 5.

Closing the night was the Stage 1 Modifieds and when the 2023 point champion sits on the pole,it's a tough nut to crack to oust him from the lead. The 1st 5 laps it was basically the field as they started but making some noise on lap 7 was Johnny Fugelo and Riley Wanamaker as they both got to the rear bumper of AJ Gerhart but could not get by the S1 he was driving.Wanamaker,Chad Riddle and Fugelo swapped positions on lap 9 as May 2nd winner Brett Smith was now firmly sitting in 4th.Mike Faust,Jr.got by Riddle for 5th and the race to lap 20 was on.Gerhart won by a 1/2 straightaway with Smith passing Wanamaker for 2nd. Fugelo and Faust,Jr. were 4th and 5th.Samantha Maguire improved her position by 5 spots rallying to 6th from 11th. The Smart Auto $50 bonus went to Sam Kulp.

Checkered was thrown at 10:17..Mother Nature showed some warning signs after the hotlaps were run,but she scampered to the north and had a torrential downpour just 8 miles away from the speedway.

The Lily Barrett t-shirt giveaway was a big success with a few more going to some lucky fans next week.

Wingless Weds. racing returns May 29th with 6:15 hotlaps.
