MCCARTHY SCORES CLIFF KRAUSE MEMORIAL MODIFIED WIN AT WALL STADIUM

WALL, NJ ~ Giving credit to his race team's strategy, Eddie McCarthy of Brick raced to an impressive victory in the 127 lap Cliff Krause Memorial for Modified stock cars Saturday night at Wall Stadium Speedway. The annual event is presented to honor speedway promoter Cliff Krause who passed away in 2018. The victory earned McCarthy $7,126.

Anthony Sesely of Hazlet was the star of the show for much of the event as he jumped to the lead at the outset, stretched an advantage at times and fought off tough competition at others when caution flags forced restarts. In fact, Sesely seemed to be the class of the field fighting off several restart challengers.

Lap 76 seemed to offer a turning point in the race as nearly the entire field darted to the pit area for a two tire change. This is where the McCarthy team's strategy came into play as he stayed on the track and then fought to stay near the top of the field through the next 15 laps.

Once back to action Sesely was the leader as Jackson's Kyle Scisco and Howell's Jimmy Blewett became strong contenders. Near the 108 lap mark Scisco slipped to the lead as Blewett took over second. Meanwhile McCarthy, benefiting form those two fresher tires, advanced to third on lap 116 and into second one lap later.

McCarthy then taunted leader Scisco through lap 124 when the final caution waved for moisture on the track from a competitor's blown motor. On the restart Scisco, McCarthy and Blewett wrestled for position before Scisco spun in turn two. McCarthy then raced on to the impressive win with Blewett finishing second. Sesely crossed the finish line third, but when his team refused a post race inspection that was required of the top three finishers, his car was disqualified. That moved Jackson's Blake Barney to third, Neptune City's Bryan O'Shea to fourth and Jackson's Jarret DiGiantomasso to fifth.

Scott Riggleman of Manchester grabbed his second win of the season in the 27 lap race for the Factory Stocks, taking the lead on lap 19. Early leader James Hall IV returned to finish second after late race trouble, while Logan Fraser of Toms River, Shanon Mongeau of Island Heights and Howell's Kyle Anderton wrapped up the top five.

In just his second start at the speedway, Anthony March of Riverhead, NY grabbed his first win at the track over big winner Mike Alcaro of West Milford. Ryan MacConnell, Justin Emmons and Bryan Gardella were third through fifth.

Ryan Tidman of Doylestown, Pa. won the 27 lap main event for the touring ATQMRA Midgets, over Buddy Sload and Kyle Taraska. Early race leader Steve Craig and Chris Coleman wrapped up the top five.

The 2024 Wall Stadium Speedway season continues on Saturday night, August 31, with the Factory Stocks, Sportsman, Legend Cars and Fast 4 car in competition. Demo Derby action is also planned. Qualifying is at 5:15 p.m. with main events starting at 7:00 p.m.
