Twenty five years ago, Nancy and Rick Grosso opened a totally refurbished New Egypt Speedway, but since then they have relinquished ownership of the speedway. They still attend the shows on a regular basis cheering on their grandchildren, Brandon, and Justin. Brandon has enjoyed the support and more importantly the victory lane photos with them as he captured the Vahlco Wheels modified main event Saturday night. The win was his seventh of the season and gives him a nice cushion atop the points pylon with the season heading into its second half. Bryan Kuhl wasted no time in besting Frank Venezia into turn one to lead the first lap of the thirty lap event with Chris Grbac third and Kevin Vaclavicek fourth. Grbac became the new number two man on lap two with Jim Housworth now occupying position number three. With green flag conditions dominating the race, Housworth darted into second on lap nine with Louden Reimert third. While Kuhl was enjoying a small but comfortable lead, the race for the runner up spot was a highly contested one between Housworth, Grbac, and Reimert. Grosso began to show his hand on lap thirteen cracking the top five. Charging into third on lap sixteen, one lap later, the yellow lights would blink on for a turn one incident involving Mickey Kessler, John Aumick, and Justin Grosso. The double file restart saw Grosso sitting outside of the Kuhl #37 and with one more lap recorded the yellow flag again was waving for Mike Butler who came to a stop in turn two. Grosso was up for the resumption of the race, taking control on lap nineteen as Kuhl was now second and Reimert third. Pulling away from the competition, Grosso was not to be challenged as the race for second continued to be a nail biter. Kuhl remained steady and was able to hold off the Reimert challenge to earn second place money as Grosso pulled into victory lane for the seventh time in 2022. Following Reimert across the finish line was the 2020 track champion, Danny Bouc, with John McClelland fifth. Invader Richie Pratt Jr came from fifteen to finish sixth as Frank Cozze, Housworth, Cale Ross, and Grbac rounded out the top ten.

In only his second appearance of the season, veteran Steve Davis drove a consistent race to win round four of the High Gear Towing Crate Select Series. The win was his seventh career at the Route 539 oval. A potent field of twenty four lined up for the Series event with Will Protnick leading lap one before giving way to Ryan Simmons on lap two. The caution flag flew briefly for a spinning Tom Klimkowski on lap four but the driver of the #622 was able to right the ship and rejoin the race. Lined up in second, Joe Brown Jr vaulted into the lead on lap five as Davis moved into third behind Simmons. Sliding into second on lap eight, Davis quickly darted around the Brown #5J to take the lead on lap ten. Series points leader Joe Toth swung into second on lap twelve and set his sights on Davis. Closing the gap, Toth simply ran out of time as Davis took the big win. Simmons was able to come home third with Nick Van Wickle fourth and David Burns fifth.

Scott Dunn led the fifteen lap Wash Wagon 4 Cylinder feature from start to finish notching his second win of the season. Richie Page started the event in twelfth and ran a terrific race to finish second with Mike Fox third, current points leader Justin Dunn fourth and Joe Garey Jr, fifth.

Veteran Tom Carberry took the win in the twenty five lap MASS 305 feature. Logan Diehl and Carberry were hooked up in a terrific battle throughout the first half of the race, but on lap sixteen the two made contact with Diehl rolling his #94D. Diehl was uninjured in the incident as Carberry went on to take the win. Aiden Borden finished second with Eddie Wagner third, Justin Mills fourth, and Mark Bitner fifth.

The speedway will be dark next Saturday, but first class racing will return on Saturday, July 30th with a full action packed card. For further information, contact the speedway office at 609-758-1900 or visit us at newegyptspeedway.net.
