Bad news for non-wing open wheel fans. Big Diamond has removed both upcoming ARDC Midget shows from their schedule, June 25th and July 30th. The Wingless Super Sportsman tour race scheduled for July 23rd has also been dumped. No reason was given by the speedway for the cancellations.

ARDC adds nothing to a program at the moment and the market for wingless sprint cars is saturated currently. I think the midgets lost some guys who would have raced with them to USAC east.

I think its a stretch to say the northeast is saturated with non-wing racing. Loads more wings and mods than non-wing.  ARDC is trying to make a comeback. Yes the car count isnt there right now but if a speedway commits to putting them on the sked and then pulls the plug 2 weeks before, just because of not making enough back gate, that shows the character of the promoter. Lincoln could have done the same but didnt cancel them earlier this month. ARDC changed their engine package to try and bring in more cars and they need dates in order for that to happen.

Yes, the speedway did give a reason when asked on their Facebook page and it was a good reason. The Modifieds were added and Wingless Super Sportsman dropped because unfortunately so many races have been lost to the weather this year. I support the track's decision to give the Modifieds more shows as they have been the primary class since the very beginning. It also states that ARDC can't bring the car count that it agreed on when they were originally booked.

ARDC's purse is progressive based on their car count. Big D had 12 midgets show for the first race in which they payed a whopping $575 to the winner. Had 20 or more cars showed the winner would have gotten $1000. Those guys are paying the same price to get in the pits as the modified drivers and crew.
