It's on the docket for the township meeting so there must be something to it

Kind of odd since they made the investment on new lights.

Very strange these junk car outfits seem to be involved with the death of local raceways. E-Town, tried it with Atco, and now this. Take a ride down 322 between WAWA and the Commodore Barry Bridge and you'll get a good idea how much money the Bport property is worth. The vultures are circling. Get out to your local track as often as possible. Save Flo-Racing for the winter months

Possible rental of the property over the off season? Hard to believe they'd sell out of the blue

So the neighbors would rather have a scrap yard across the street from their homes?

Area is really being built up quickly. The Track isn't out in the sticks anymore. I'd be the land is worth quite a bit of money.

It isn't building up that close to the track yet. The houses around there have been there a long time & most of them make money off of big shows for parking. I don't think they want a junkyard across the street. Unless you can get all the land down to Rt 100, I don't think it's that great of a location By the way, I live 6 minutes from the track

The fact that Ernie has not commented either way on this would make me think Grandview's days might be numbered. Needless to say, it would leave a big void if that's the case.

ERNIE NEVER HAS AND NEVER WILL COMMENT ON ANYTHING NEGATIVE ABOUT GRANDVIEW.  JUST REMBERING IN THE PAST ABOUT COMPLAINTS ABOUT SMOKING, THE CONDITIONS OF THE BATHROOMS, ENFORCING THE RULES FOR DRIVRRS ETC, ETC.  HE ALWAYS SAW GRANDVIEW THROUGH ROSE COLORED GLASSES,  OH, I FORGOT,, HE WAS ON THEIR PAYROLL

There's no need for this post. Ernie was a track employee. If an employee of a track or racing series goes on a message board to bash his employer, they will be a former employee. Did you expect him to criticize the bathrooms at Grandview?

Ernie is retired. Let the man enjoy retirement.

I dont know how or why you think that is what my post about Ernie was for, some people just automatically go to the dark side I guess. My thoughts were that if the rumors were just that, rumors Ernie or someone else probably would have answered this thread, squashed them and said Gtandview is alive and well. The lack of response says that the sale of the track is likely.

Their is a good chance that after the Freedom race the Rodgers family will announce the sale. My question if Grandview does close where do Strunk CVD and Howard go among others.

As we have seen time and time again the value of the property becomes greater than what the track can generate. As far as the spending of money on new lights, there was no offer on the property at the time and they didn't see one coming. As a life long fan being from Whitehouse and having East Windsor on Friday nights, Flemington of course on Saturday nights & Nazareth on Sunday nights that are all gone now and Grandview has become my Saturday night home for many years now. It will be sad to see it go should it happen but life goes on and I will attend another track for my racing needs.

Knowing the elevations of the property, I'm surprised Copart would pick Grandview. I guess they look at race tracks as properties that had a tough time with zoning, so towns would be happy to have parking only.  This is not the first race track they have bought or leased. They are the new Wal Mart/track buyers.

If it is sold I do not blame the owners. People don't realize that dirt tracks are not money makers. They only race 25 to 30 times a year and the work that involves for it to be successful is not worth the little bit of profit from the track. After you pay the workers, taxes and insurance I am sure there is only a little bit left over. If anyone of us was in their shoes and was offered a pretty penny for the property we would all be doing the same thing they are. Am i upset? Absolutely. But all good things come to an end and I am grateful for all the good racing I had seen there throughout the years

As long as there are tracks that run on Saturday nights, the guys will find places to go.  Strunk, Howard, and CVD are no strangers to Bridgeport, and for others with car owners, they'll go where the car owner says or someone else will be in the car.

For the lower budget teams and 602's... well, there's options as well...

So come September, will we go to the 76'er for old time's sake and line the kid's pockets, or will we take our business elsewhere and reward those who are still working to keep our favorite pasttime alive?

I will be going to the 76er, my favorite race every year, which this family gave me the opportunity to watch. Quit acting like they took something from you when you never had it. It is theirs not yours. They own the track and like I said in my previous post we all would do the same. If I was her and had the opportunity to sell and help my kids and grandkids i would sell it too. Especially with the way our things are today. Does it suck? Absolutely, but I'm not going to put down a family that put in many years of labor for us to attend great racing. One thing you have to realize is they were not getting rich off the racing. Most tracks these days are lucky to break even. So this 76er will be our last and I would like to Thank the owners and all the workers for giving me many years of great racing.

With the numbers I'm hearing that are being thrown out there, I agree that it's a smart financial decision with the state of racing these days.  But lets acknowledge that it isn't just the 'fans' have that somewhat contributed to the lack of desire to continue to operate the track on a weekly basis.  I'm sure that Tina has had just about enough of dealing with the race teams as well.  They too can be just a guilty of abusing the priviledge of having a facility operate every week to go out and live their racing dreams.  With the crowds they draw for special shows, it would appear that they could just run 6 or 8 of them a year and maybe make a profit, but why make the effort if they can just cash in and be sitting pretty?  There are so many reasons to sell, but at least we can all enjoy one last 76er in a couple weeks and get one last look at a track that gave us a lot of good memories.  Thanks to all who continued to keep the place running as long as it did.
