I don't want to see Grandview go away, been going there since mid 80's, but the Rogers family has shown their hand.  They don't want to own a race track anymore.

It really sucks, but someone has offered them a load of money for their property, they could all retire and kick back with this cash.  They are going to sell it, if not this winter, then it will be next year, but it will be sold to copart unless someone steps in and offers a better deal and they keep it a track.  Everything possible will be done to get the zoning changed.  Copart is already revising their plan to make it work, they will either keep revising or start offering $$$ to the local gov to get this done.

A signed petition isn't going to force someone to keep their property.

Grandview's fate is in the hands of a few people in the township. Really just comes down to if they like the track or view a junkyard as an upgrade or downgrade revenue wise. Remember, zoning has its purpose. People need to respect that, even if it means losing millions. The track was built on basically worthless hilly land with powerlines on it. Now, 60+ yrs later it has value but changing the zoning isnt fair to those that live near it. The property owners nearby absolutely have a say in this. The Nazareth Mile and Flemington Fairgrounds both were zoning changes which ended the speedways from ever operating again, but that was the wish of the townships at that time, to get rid of the tracks. I know the Rogers want to sell but it doesn't mean the buyer gets to do whatever they want. You could put 5000 townhouses on that land too but residents don't have to allow it. We shall see what round 2 brings.

I live in a rural area and years ago Verizon contacted Jim who was one of my neighbors and offered him a nice chunk of change for some of his wooded land so they could put up a cell tower. Jim was excited because he never used the land and told me he could use the money to put his kids through school and other things too. A couple weeks later Richard, another neighbor, came knocking on my door. He told me he was going around to all the neighbors and wanted me to sign a petition to prevent the sale to Verizon because it would be an eyesore for the neighborhood. After I got done yelling at Richard I told him I would like to see which neighbors of mine signed that petition. I told him if they steal from Jim they would steal from me and can't be trusted. I know a racetrack and cell towers are 2 different things but you should get the point. Don't be a Richard and leave the Rogers family do what they want with THEIR property.

ok Mrs Rodgers here is our petition with x amount of signatures we do not want you to sell so that you can make millions. Your loyal fans and drivers should come first and your desire to make money from the sale should not be considered. Good luck with that and I hope Grandview stays open
