NY’s Skyline Raceway Raceway Becomes ARRA’s 150th Researched Track
Ringoes,NJ – Virgil,NY’s Skyline Raceway Motorsports Park has been added to the Auto Racing Research Associates roster of researched auto racing facilities across the nation. More notable...it becomes the milestone 150th track to do so. “Wow is all I can say to think that this deal myself and Bill Braga Jr. began on a lark back in the mid 1990’s has become what it has today” boasted ARRA President Fred Voorhees as he pondered where the organization began and where it is today. “Skyline becomes the 150th track to fall under our auspices here at ARRA! It joins over 700 other racing subjects including driver careers, track and racing series histories, racing organizations, traveling series’, car owners and particular history making cars, special racing events and other various subjects dealing with the sport of spinning wheels.” When Voorhees decided to take on the Skyline Speedway, he had his reasons. “We had researched some drivers prior to the Skyline project began and we felt that there may have been some wins at Skyline that needed finding to complete their career research projects.” Fred revealed. “Some of our ARRA historians in the geographical area of Skyline warned me that the project was going to be fraught with many gaps in coverage and thus, lots of stats that would more than likely be almost impossible to get. And honestly, there is definitely some gaps in the file of weekly racing results which began back in 1961. I got lucky and found one or two newspapers that provided decent coverage of the speedway and through the use of an on-line subscription newspaper search service...I was able to go back to read through the papers to grab everything that I could.” Skyline Raceway Motorsports Park is an “out of the way” speedway situated on the top of a hill in the countryside outside Cortland,NY. Never having run a steady diet of marquee dirt track racing divisions, Skyline subsisted of exciting racing from Sportsman, late model and and street stock divisions among a handful of other classes, sometimes as many as six divisions in a single show. Fred says, “I invite all racing fans to check out our newest and milestone page on our Auto Racing Research Associates website detailing the weekly competition results history of this NY state racing facility.” Those interested can access the page at this link: https://sites.google.com/view/tracks-series-organizations/skyline-racewayu>
