Auto Racing Research Associates Looking for Young Historians! Ringoes,NJ – ARRA, Auto Racing Research Associates, is on the hunt for one or two young and enthusiastic auto racing fans who may be interested in becoming an auto racing historian and join their team. ARRA President Fred Voorhees says that they are prepared to get a new young person well prepared to get right into the research work and will supply him or her with a huge collection of Area Auto Racing News papers reaching all the way back to 1970 and extending right up into the late teens. “We not only have a few very nice collections of racing papers to hand over to a new historian to get them started right, but we will also be taking the new kid on the block under our wings and give him or her all of the hints, sources, tricks and methods to get them off to a great start and they can literally get started on researching their first project right away.” claimed Voorhees as he begins the search for some young talent that’s interested in becoming our next member. “Honestly, there is a method to our madness….” Fred continued, “……we have over forty historians in our group, spread across the country and up into Canada…but the main problem is that most of our guys are getting up in age. Yes, we have a handful of youthful guys among us…but for the most part…our historians are getting up in age and our work has grown in such proportions, that we are looking to assure a continuity of providing more and more statistics and to do that…we need to bring in some younger persons who would be interested in becoming a historian and assure that as our older ARRA historians begin to either become unable to continue or pass away, we would love to know that our work will continue into the future.” President Voorhees is quite proud of his group and they all were recognized this past Summer when Fred was honored with the Northeast Dirt Modified Hall of Fame Andrew S. Fusco “Excellence in Media” award. He was quick to note that the award was not just for him. “It represents our work as a whole and I would like to recognize each and every one of our historians in getting that award. It might have my name on it, but it represents a recognition of the work that all of us are performing.” he wished to emphasize. Back when he started researching the history of the sport in the early to mid 90’s, Fred had little idea of just what was involved in research work and what sources were out there to aid in the effort. These days…they have multiple website sources, a host of fans spread out across the Northeast who are willing to share their knowledge, internet subscription services that provide valuable entry to so many different news sources to pluck the stats out of, the knowledge of how to search for and dig out the stats and so many other helpful methods of getting the projects thoroughly complete and added to their ever growing website. “I have to admit that I myself am getting older and I won’t be able to keep this up the rest of my life.” Voorhees mentioned. “I love this work and I love what myself and Bill Braga Jr. have built from our humble beginnings back in the mid to late 90’s, but to have all of this work go to waste should there be no one to continue to work behind the scenes, keeping the website up to date. It will die on the vine without some young kid stepping in to take things over and keep it going. It’s my hope that I get one or two young enthusiastic fans who are computer literate and will be able to join me and I can show them how easy it is to keep the website running. I will take them under my wing and show them exactly what needs to be done to keep things running.” So, ARRA is making a plea to the young fans out there. “Please, if you have any interest, or just questions about what is involved…give me a shout….by phone, by email…by carrier pigeon if necessary, but get in contact with me and I can sit down with you and we can talk about your future as an auto racing historian and possibly, someone who can take the reigns from me when the time comes. It’s necessary for our work to continue and not fade away.” Fred can be reached at fredjv1@embarqmail.com or by phone at 609 937 4557 or can be reached through FaceBook.
