ARRA Announces Huge Addition to its Humberstone Speedway Page!!
Ringoes, NJ – Auto Racing Research Associates wishes to announce that thanks to one of their outlying historical associates, the research has been done, a herculean task, in adding tons more statistics to the files of the Humberstone (Canada) Speedway. Previously researched by ARRA President Fred Voorhees, the speedway, located in Port Colbourne, Ontario closed its doors after 67 successful years of operation. “Jeffery Anstett is one of ARRA’s faithful racing people out there that has been a major help in our efforts to gather and document auto racing statistics.” mentioned ARRA President Fred Voorhees in announcing the major addition of statistics to the files for Humberstone. “ Many of our historians use an online newspaper search app to hunt for racing statistics and at the time of my research work on Humberstone, I grabbed all that I could that the subscription service could offer. However, about six month ago…another newspaper, The Welland Tribune signed on to the service and it opened up a treasure chest of additional racing stats on Humberstone and Jeff seized the opportunity to delve into the work and he just recently submitted his findings.” “I finally got some time, and I went through the Welland Tribune archives, and have cleaned up Humberstone Speedway from Grand Opening all the way up to 1974.” Jeff told Fred by email when he first sent the updated files. “About 1/2 year ago Welland Tribune came online with newspapers.com. When it first came out the index was messed up and anything 1965 and up did not have word searches.” Anstett pointed out, but he persevered, as many historians do and with a little “persuasion” he got them to get things figured out! “I argued with them for a while and finally around September I searched one day and all the key words magically worked. It was just a matter of me then finding time to go over everything.” His perseverance prevailed and racing fans win with his updated history of a now dormant speedway….no longer physically active, but remembered through the stats documented by the groups historians of ARRA and its non member contributors. And Anstett assures us he is not done yet. “I still have some clean up now for 1975 and up but the really heavy lifting is completed.” “THAT”, points out Voorhees, “tells me that even more stats on the Canadian racing facility is in the batters box for an even more complete history of its long existence!” “Jeff and I became aware of each other back when I was doing my original research of the Canadian track and others in Ontario and he has consistently stayed in touch.” Fred added. Those that wish to view the new updated information can take a look at the new stats from 1958 through 1974 by going to the page and clicking on the weekly results link to see things. That page is located at: https://sites.google.com/view/tracks-organizations-series/home/humberstone-speedway Auto Racing Research Associates is a growing group of over forty auto racing historians across the country banded together for the purpose of the research, documentation and displaying of auto racing history such as driver win statistics, track, racing series and organizations histories and also the background of racing personalities, particular cars from the past and various other interesting facts of racing history that should not be forgotten.
