Illinois State Fairgrounds Joins ARRA Researched Track List
Ringoes,NJ – In accompaniment of his recent submission of a research study of the DuQuoin State Fair Speedway in Illinois, Auto Racing Research Associate historian John Nelson of Pestoum, IL just recently submitted a research project, covering the AAA and USAC Champ Car and Silver Crown events at the Illinois State Fairgrounds Speedway. In addition, Nelson also included an accounting of the USAC, AAA and ARCA stock car divisions at the Illinois State Fair facility. Both facilities are of the one mile distance…members of a very limited group of one mile facilities in the United States. “John continues to be one of ARRA’s most prolific contributors of researched racing subjects in our organization!” boasted ARRA President Fred Voorhees as he added the groups 199th different track to be added to its website. “I am looking forward to adding our organizations 200th track research project where we cover either the complete history or highlight particular divisions of different tracks across the country.” “The state fair has a long and storied history.” Voorhees noted after going over the files. “Originally held on a different site than it currently sits upon, it moved to its current location in 1894, after having been held in a close by location since its beginning in 1853. One year after the location moved to its current site, the one mile racetrack and associated grandstand were built in 1895. Racing has been held on the now famous mile every since, though some slight modifications of both the track layout and grandstands locations were effected in its early years.” “John, as usual, did a great job in covering some of the facilities more famous divisions and it was interesting to look back at the stats! I invite all interested racing fans to check out his newest submission.” Racing fans that are curious can check the new page out at: https://sites.google.com/view/tracks-organizations-series/home/illinois-state-fairgrounds Auto Racing Research Associates is a growing group of over forty auto racing historians across the country banded together for the purpose of the research, documentation and displaying of auto racing history such as driver win statistics, track, racing series and organizations histories and also the background of racing personalities, particular cars from the past and various other interesting facts of racing history that should not be forgotten.
