BLAKE BARNEY IS A REPEAT WINNER IN WALL STADIUM NASCAR MODIFIED RACE

WALL, NJ ~ Blake Barney raced to victory in the 40 lap NASCAR Modified stock car race at Wall Stadium Saturday night. It was the second straight victory for the Howell resident in  the NASCAR Local Racing Series presented by O'Reilly Auto Parts on the third mile high banked paved oval. The race ran non-stop.

Barney rocketed his famous red No. 14 to the front at the drop of the green flag, while Howell's Jimmy Blewett, Brick's Eddie McCarthy and James Blewett of Howell soon ran a tight top four. With the caution flag never waving the race ticked off at a frantic pace.

Late in the race McCarthy left the competition with reported brake problems while all attention turned to the father and son duo of Jimmy and James Blewett as they wrestled for second. Most fans in the large grandstand crowd were on their feet as James passed his father for second late in the test.

Finishing fourth behind Barney and James and Jimmy Blewett was former champions Derek Hopkinson of Milltown and Steven Reed of Jackson was fifth.

"What a great way to start the new season with two straight wins," Barney said after the victory. "My family and crew really have this car on rails! This Raceworks car is bad fast thanks to Ed Flemke!"

The 4 Cylinder cars were in the spot light in an extra distance 30-lapper and opening night winner Billy Pross of South Brunswick returned for his second straight victory. Pross wrestled his way through traffic before racing into the top spot at the halfway mark. Perhaps Keyport's Sal Liguori passed the most cars in the event as he spun early and returned from the rear of the pack to finish second. Mike Lavery, Kevin Carr and Ian Ashford were third, fourth and fifth.

Twenty six Factory Stock cars took the green flag for the night's 25 lapper with Bryan O'Shea of Neptune City taking the win. Alex Rogers led the first half the the event while former champs Elliott Wohl and O'Shea advanced through the pack. Wohl and O'Shea raced to the outside of Rogers just past halfway before O'Shea dove to the inside lane with four laps remaining to take the win. Nick Bilello, Rogers and Kevin Flores wrapped up the top five.

Kyle Taraska nailed down the win for the touring TQ Midgets grabbing the win from early leader and eventual runner-up Tyler Ferris. Opening night winner Geoffrey Sutton, Blake Barney and Joey Payne wrapped up the top five in the non-stop contest.

Wall Stadium will return to action this Saturday night May 23. The Sportsman cars will be in the spotlight as they compete in the Iron Revolution 100 lap race. Factory Stocks, 4 Cylinder cars and Legend Cars will also be in action. Qualifying is at 6:00 p.m. with main events starting at 7:00 p.m.
